Experience

I have taught in a whole array of primary schools and education settings. My roles have differed from choreographer for whole school productions to curriculum coordination and implementation of dance materials. I have coordinated projects across whole school partnerships, LEA wide initiatives and individual school workshops. I have also been responsible for introducing dance into the extended learning curriculum and most recently organising holiday workshops.

About Me

From the age of 3 I have been involved in Dance. My love of dance was initially born in local dance studios where I studied a variety of dance styles and genres. I studied a number of dance syllabi including RAD and ISTD. Over the years, I have performed in and choregraphed a number of different dance productions.

In 2005, I participtated in a national competition which saw me performing at a Dance Grand Prix in Barcelona.

In order to ensure that i had many strings to my bow I opted to attend university and studied to become a primary school teacher. I loved this job and whilst in this role, I taught Dance as part of the P.E. National Curriculum. However, Dance was only a small part of the job and i found myself beginning to miss my dance career. Therefore, I decided to embark on a career which would enable me to combine my pedagogic understanding and my love of Dance.

As a result, I started to research career oportunities which would enable me to combine teaching and dance. Over the years I had witnessed many dance coaches coming into the school environment and teaching sessions. However, whilst many of them had dance knowledge very few of them had a full grasp of classroom management, task delivery and assessment. I knew that in order to be successful a dance coach must be a teacher first and dance specialist second. I was delighted to come across Dance In Education Services who were clearly a company that combined pedagogy and dance. I approached the company to ascertain more information and quickly determined that this was the career path for me.

I am thoroughly enjoying running and operating my own branch in Wigan. I am delighted to now have a career that combines my love of teaching and dance.

Testimonials

"Dance in Education provided street/break dance workshops for our cluster of schools in the February half term, 2011. I was particularly impressed by the professionalism and promptness of all three staff that attended. All children were encouraged to participate at their own level and were kept focused and on task all day. The children worked very hard to produce a choreographed piece of dance to showcase for their parents at the end of the day. The children who attended said that they had enjoyed the day and that they would come to another workshop run by Dance in Education. All the parents commented on how proud they were to see their children perform and that they'd had a great time."
Wendy Ainscough, Extended Learning Development Coordinator, Beech Hill, Wigan.

“The boys have all said that after being taught by you that they all want to join a dance class as they have been enjoying the sessions so much”
