Jump Cut is a fascinating resource containing over 100 video extracts / examples that look at the relationship between animation, video design, screen design and dance. It poses the question who is the artist? Is it the choreographer, or is it the film maker/video designer? Who has the final artistic say and how do we make these roles and artforms work together to produce a singular artistic outcome, communicating one theme?
Jump Cut starts in the dance studio and follows the film maker, choreographer and dancers on a journey which results in the production of a new a dance film called Jump Cut. The DVD examines the different types of relationship that can exist between live and recorded dance, video design and production, as well as original music. And not forgetting the direct link between the rehearsal and performance.
The DVD provides innovative performance, choreographic and appreciation tasks. In fact, in this resource we actually provide you with the screen design that is featured in the film. This enables your students to create their own versions of the dance film and have the opportunity to work with a professionally produced screen design as a back drop. Accompanying the resource is a Music CD comprised of all the music featured in the dance film.
The dance film takes the viewer on journey starting with a comedic ragtime section; a stylized 1940's train sequence; a daring balloon extract with its unusual camera tricks and ploys; the street dance section featuring a dance off with international street dance stars Peridot; finally a futuristic space concept which culminates in the dancers being sucked into a vortex and thrown out into infinity. A wealth of material for creative exploration!
