Jump Cut is a fascinating course. At a time when animation and video design dominate the set design and realisation of many theatrical productions, and when dance and camera are being introduced into examination syllabuses, we decided that there was a need for a course which truly provided teachers with an insight into this new relationship and specialist medium.
The course poses the question who is the artist? Is it the choreographer, or is it the film maker/video designer? Who has the final artistic say and how do we make these roles and art forms work together to produce a singular artistic outcome, communicating one theme?
This course provides innovative teaching, performance, choreographic and appreciation tasks. All delegates receive a copy of the Jump Cut DVD. Jump Cut commences in the dance studio and follows the film maker, choreographer and dancers on a journey which results in the production of a new a dance film called Jump Cut.
The DVD features documentary footage, a full length dance film, animated video clips, interviews with the choreographer, rehearsal footage, information about the filming making process, special effects, performers' comments, video extracts illustrating specific dance concepts, and examines the different types of relationship that can exist between live and recorded dance, video design and production, as well as original music. And not forgetting the direct link between the rehearsal and performance. In fact, in this resource we actually provide you with the screen design that is featured in the film. This enables your students to create their own versions of the dance film and have the opportunity to work with a professionally produced screen design as a back drop.
This course is perfect for teachers of GCSE/A Level Dance.
A truly unique course!
